The Sidereal vs Tropical Zodiacs: What's the difference?
The Sidereal Zodiac:

-0 Degrees Aries is fixed to a star on the celestial map
-Accounts for the procession of the equinox
-Was developed in ancient Mesopotamia ~5th Century B.C.
-Signs are NOT related to earth's seasons.

Includes:

-Western Sidereal Astrology
-Vedic Astrology
The Tropical Zodiac:

-0 Degrees Aries is fixed to the vernal equinox
-Signs are directly related to earth's seasons, therefore the procession of the equinox is of no consequence
-Was developed during the Hellenistic Period ~2nd Century A.D.
Includes:

-Western Tropical Astro
-Vedic Tropical Astro
Both Zodiacs:

-Have only 12 zodiac signs
-The signs do not equate to constellations. The constellations were named after the zodiac signs
-Have origins in Babylonian Astrology
-Can be used to calculate your natal chart
Thing You Should Know:

-There is a 24 Degree difference between these two zodiacs, sidereal being 24 degrees behind tropical. This difference is called the ayanamsa.

-The procession of the equinoxes was discovered by Hipparchus in 130 B. C.
-Vedic Astrology, both when using the sidereal and tropical zodiac, is rich with traditional Indian culture and belief systems. If you are not Indian, be wary of cultural appropriation when talking about this topic with others. It is also referred to as Jyotish which means Light.
-Western in this context means the philosophical approach and cultural beliefs of people living in North America and Eastern Europe, and consequently, countries & cultures influenced by their culture through colonialism.
Myths About Your Sidereal Chart:

With the lack of information on the internet about Sidereal Astrology that isn't strictly Vedic, it's easy to get confused about what your sidereal chart means. Here are some myths that are absolutely false.
The most common is that your sidereal chart is one of the following:

-Your soul / true self
-Your past life
-Another version of you
-Your dark side
-You w/o Karma
-You in the Eastern hemisphere
-An evolved/unevolved version of you
-Your childhood
-Who you're meant to be
Why not?

Because astrology is a language used to describe your experiences on Earth in this life. It gives you the context & the means to communicate your experiences which includes your upbringing, education, societal conditioning & other "sides" of you. It's all there already
regardless of whether you choose to use the sidereal or tropical zodiac. You are not missing the means to interpret these things in one chart, therefore you don't need a second chart to find these things.
So is one system better than the other?

The short answer is no. However you will hear a lot of people argue otherwise for both. You need to educate yourself and make your own decision based on what works for you.
Can you use both systems at the same time?

No. They cannot be combined or used in unison. You can't use one without negating the other at some point. They are different separate systems that require a different approach. They are whole on their own.
