Thread: Why Eduardo Camavinga is the best midfield talent in the world
Eduardo Camavinga has had a sensational first season in Ligue 1. I personally have never seen a bigger talent than him to come out from Ligue 1 bar Mbappe. Let’s have a look why he’s so special.
In this thread I will talk about:
- Attributes that Camavinga possesses
- Attributes that Camavinga needs to improve on
- What Camavinga should do to reach his potential
Attributes that Camavinga possesses: Let’s start with Camavinga’s close control. Camavinga draws in 2.44 fouls P90 which is actually the 4th most in the league. As stats don’t do his close control justice, here a little video.
Camavinga is also a very tidy dribbler. He completes around 0.6 dribbles P90 which isn’t a lot but given his position, it’s normal. His success rate is 77.8% though. This is a higher rate than Ndombele last season. This is what his dribbles led to.
Camavinga is also a very tactically aware. This is also what a player like Gilmour has where he always know where to be wherever the ball is. It’s a special trait that a very few youngsters have at such a young age. This is also why he’s such a great defensive mind. Here’s a vid!
Camavinga wins tackles 4.19 players P90 and wins 2.48 of them which is the 4th most in the league and top 11% in the world. His successful pressures P90 is 7.79 which puts him top 7% in the world. This shows he’s super active and a hard worker. Look how good he is defensively
His timing of the tackle is super underrated as well. Although the stats don’t show it as much, he is a better tackler than shown. He usually loses some duels due to him being so raw and not use to the game as much.
As we were just talking about his pressures, he’s super aggressive in his pressure and well disciplined. He is super quick at closing players down. This just shows he isn’t here to be messing around and wants to play his football. Not a lazy mentality like someone young players.
Camavinga is a player who plays with confidence and flair. The kid isn’t scared of a single thing. He tries stuff some established pros won’t do. Has a fantastic turn on him as well as a great change of speed when pressing for example.
He has a great athletic body on him that’s perfectly good for his position. 5’11 and weighing at 68kg for his age is kinda of the perfect build for a DM in the modern game.
His passing is also very similar to how Matic does his long passing. In fact his left peg is similar to Matic’s due to the technique he uses.
Attributes that Camavinga needs to improve on: There are of course going to be things he needs to improve on as he’s 17. For me, these 3 areas he needs to heavily work on. He is very weak in the air. He has a success rate of less than 50% which is quite poor for a DM that’s 5’11.
For a midfield, I feel as he should be more two footed than he currently is. He seems too dependent on his left. One more thing is his shooting that needs to improve but I’m sure that’ll all come with time.
What Camavinga should do to reach his potential:
For me Camavinga should sign for a club this season and go back on loan to Rennes for 1-2. Who should that club be? For me it should be Real Madrid. They already have Casemiro there of course but Camavinga can comeback to Madrid...
and have 1-2 transition year with Casemiro where he is declining and Camavinga is slowly getting more minutes until he’s a starter. It’s the best approach for me personally. If not he should go to a club where he’ll get game time but in a harder league.
He’s been one of the best midfielders in the league already all at 17... The talent is clear. He could move to PL team that need a starting DM and then be sold in 1-2 years. Camavinga for me best plays as a DM. Some would say 8 but I really value his defensive attributes.
For me he is the best midfield talent in the world with the highest ceiling. He’s so complete for someone of his age and I grantee that he will be up there one day. Incredible player! A Ballon Dor is very likely.
