#Thread on Haihayvanshi Kalchuri Rajput Dynasty of Tripuri (Descendants of Kalchuris of Mahishmati).

Haihayvanshi Kalachuris (mentioned in Mahabharata) ruled Mahimshmati until 7th century, then they moved to Kalinjara at the end of the 7th century, & finally moved to Tripuri.

The ancestral seat of Mahishmati gave birth to four Kalchuri dynasties.
1. Kalchuris of Tripuri (The most illustrious)
2. Kalchuris of Saryupara( Offshooted at the same time as of Tripuri).
3. Kalchuris of Ratanpur (from Tripuri)
4. Kachuris of Raipur (from Tripuri)
Haihayvanshi kalchuris is a Chandravanshi Clan, that is said to have descended from the haihayvanshi Samrat Kartavirya Arjuna. The dynasty is known for building the great temples of Amarkantak in MP.
They 1st moved to Kalinjar from Mahishamti & later to Tripuri( known as Chedi).
Gangeyadeva was the most illustrious king of Chandravanshi Kalchuri dynasty.He increased its stature to an Imperial status. Extended his control over the sacred cities of Varanasi & Prayaga. He needed a common currency throughout his empire was 1st to issue gold coins in his era.
Their core territory included the historical Chedi region (Dahala-mandala), and their capital was located at Tripuri (present-day Tewar near Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh).
Prithviraj Chauhan's mother Karpuridevi was a Kalchuri princess of Tripuri.
The dynasty at Chedi was established by Vamaraja-deva (675-700 CE) a descendant of Kalchuris of Mahishmati.
Kokalla I (850-890 CE); his younger son established the Ratnapura Kalachuri branch (Chhatisgarh).Ratanpur Kalchuri Rule (10-14 Cent) is considered as golden period of CG.
Another Kalchuri kingship emerged in UP, known as Kalachuris of Sarayupara. The Sarayupara family ruled a territory along the banks of the Sarayu (modern Ghaghara) River, in the Bahraich and Gonda regions of UP. The family originated in the late 8th cen & lasted until 12th cen.
Its kingdom extended from the Ghaghara River to the Gandak River and included the cities of Bahraich, Gonda, Basti, and Gorakhpur.

The Ratanpur family on the other hand ruled for a longer period and built many magnificent temples during their reign in chhattisgarh.
Prithvideva's son Ratnadeva II repulsed an invasion by Anantavarman Chodaganga, the king of the Eastern Ganga dynasty. The Gyaraspur inscription of Kokalla I's son Valleka, which records the foundation of a Jain temple by the prince.
In 1052-1053 CE,Lakshmikarna crowned himself chakravartin (universal ruler). This is attested by the Rewa inscription of his general Vappulla; this inscription is dated to Lakshmikarna's second regnal year as a chakravartin.
Lakshmikarna built the Karna-meru temple at Varanasi.
Lakshmikarna also bore imperial titles Paramabhattaraka, Maharajadhiraja & Parameshvara. The 12th cen. Jain author Hemachandra states that Lakshmikarna defeated the Pala king of Gauda (Birbhum, Bengal), king of Gauda offered Lakshmikarna a heavy tribute to save his life & throne.

After the decline of Kalchuri dynasty of Chedi the Kalchuris moved further North-East, to Haldi-Ballia and established a small principality. Raja of Haldi-Ballia is known as the head of Haihayvanshi Kalchuri Rajputs.
Sepoy Chattar Singh, was awarded Victoria Cross in 1916 for his chivalrous act in 1st World War at Tigris Front, Mesopatamia (IRAQ) hailed from haihayvansi Kalchuri rajput family from Kanpur.
Many Kalchuris today live in Bundelkhand, with presence in Chattisgrah, East UP& bihar.
Faith:
All Kalchuri dynasties were predominantly shaivites. Several Shaiva leaders (acharya) served as royal preceptors (rajaguru) to Kalachuri kings; these included Purusha-shiva, Shakti-shiva, Kirti-shiva, and Vimala-shiva. Gangeyadeva installed a Shivalinga at Piawan.
Society:
Jamabandi of kalyan sai(1544-81) was very popular and it predates the revenue model of todarmal.
It was later used by britishers during first settlement in Bilaspur(CG).
Farmers were not harassed

Kalchuri kings were great patrons of architecture and religion. One of the most significant temples or Chattisgarh and MP were built by Kalchuri Kings.
Several evidences are found where it was seen that large amount of Grants were given to Temples and Brahmins by Kalchuri Kings.
