Mohammed Ali Jauhar born on 10 Dec 1878, in UP was and Indian activist and played an important role in Khilafat Movement.
When he was five years old his father Abdul Ali Khan passed away, and his mother Abadi begum inspired her childeren to take up the fight against
Britishers and helped them to become educated with very little resources and lots of effort.
muhammed went to AMU and Lincoln college, Oxford, for studying mordern history.
He worked a lot to expand Aligarh Muslim University and also was the co- founder of Jamia milia islamia
in 1920.
He married Amjadi Bano Begum.
She was also took part and was active in Khilafat Movement.
He was an education director in Rampir state, and joined Baroda Civil Service.
He was very good writer and orator
who wrote fearlessly against the Britishers in
various newspapers like The Time, London, The Manchestor, The Guardian. Also launched the English, weekly The Comrade in 1911 in Calcutta.
It gained a lot of attention nd people started reading it.
He also launched Urdu newspaper Hamdard in 1913.
▫️POLITICAL ACTIVITIES AND KHILAFAT MOVEMENT.
He was the president of All India Muslim League.
In 1919 a Muslim delegation was travelling to England and it was represented by Muhammed Ali to convince the British government to influence the Turkish natinalist Mustafa kemal
to not depose as Sultan of Turkey, he was the Caliph of Islam and also the presumed leader of all islamic nations of that time.
However, British rejected this whiched lead to the formation of Khilafat Committee which adviced all Indian Muslims to protest and boycott
the British government.
Nationalist leaders like Shaukat Ali, Maulana Azad, Hakim Ajmal Khan, Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari, Syed Ata Ullah Shah Bukhari as well as Mahatma Gandhi, the Indian National Congress and many thousands of Hindus also joined the Muslims in a unity against
the British government.
Jauhar fully supported Gandhi and inspired many Indians to protest against the cruel government but was later arrested by British government and was jailed for two years for seditious speech in a Khilafat conference.
▫️1930 ROUND TABLE CONFERENCE.
His health was not good because he suffered in jail he got diabetic and lacked vitamins and minerals, despite this he attended the round table conference in London, the chairman was Sir Agha Khan of Muslim delegation to point out that
only Muslim league supported the Indian Muslims
However, Ali said to tjat he would not come to India until and unless the country was free from Britishers
he said, I would prefer to die in a foreign country so long as it is a free country, and if you do not give us freedom in
India, you will have to give me a grave here."
▫️DEATH
He died in London due to a stroke and was buried in Jerusalem,by the choice of his relatives and friends.
