Indian writers: thanks to the oncoming recession, there will be a sudden boom in low/no-pay content sweatshops, often fronted by biggish names. You will be told working for them is a good idea because exposure/what to do, recession/such learnings/opportunities. Please escape.
If you're not getting paid enough to cover the time, you need a revenue-share/IP ownership share agreement. Suggest it, and watch them run. If they stay, then take them seriously.
Also, be realistic about how much you should be paid. Get a sense of the market. A lot of writers lose jobs they need simply because they grossly overestimate their abilities and (current) market value. And a lot of editors saying no are good people with slashed budgets
Saying this because I found my career in easier times: the economy was booming, artists had much more freedom, there was a little room for experiments and mistakes. There isn't now.
Since many people seem to be sharing this I want to add: Arts careers in India are nearly always privilege-based (if you're in one and don't feel this, you'll see it later). The field is unreliable, corrupt, massively gatekeeper-infested even when the stakes are very low.
So unless you Have to try, and/or have the privilege to hold out until you make it... Get Out.
