It’s not too far fetch to say that Messi isn’t bigger than Barcelona. Club de amigos? Check. Rumors of Messi wanting Neymar back even though fullbacks, centerbacks are more pressing issues? Check. Messi isn’t demanding managers to get sack but not properly wielding his influence. https://twitter.com/josepintoj/status/1277459839736639488
Part of me also think Messi just isn’t that dedicated about football like he used to be because of Antonela. Messi wants to spend his last days, playing with forwards he loves on and off the field. It’s the only thing he got left as a means of deep connection.
Think about it. Busquets pretty much spend as much time as Messi in Barcelona basically. Yet, Messi probably has a deeper connection with Neymar than Busquets. Messi does want to win, no doubt. But I feel like Messi doesn’t want to feel like playing alone sentimentally speaking.
Messi is pretty much the last La Masia guy left standing along with Pique, Busquets when going through all the glory days together. But they are defenders. The only thing Messi got going for him is to play with forwards that he loves because everyone from his youth is gone.
Messi is the senior employee that spent 20 years in a business. He is the manager whose easily the most talented, beloved. But he doesn’t relate to his younger coworkers because they’re not in his youthful days or they’re not the homies that kicks asses epically. It’s the truth.
