All due respect, no. You can dislike the Palpatine reveal, that's fine. It's not for everyone but you don't need to trash the writers. I wish people would just stop being so entitled and not talk down about others to say "This just didn't land for me".

Little scene analysis:
It's nothing to do with "teasing" her Palpatine lineage. It's showing that Rey loses control and when she does, her friends suffer. She got distracted on Ajan Kloss and BB-8 got crushed by a tree. In this instance, she thought her lightning killed Chewie.

It was an accident but her frustration manifested itself in a dark side power when she was struggling with Kylo over the ship. You don't have to be a Palpatine to use Force lightning. We've seen Dooku use it in other media during his time as a Jedi but it's a signature...
...DARK SIDE ability. Not a Palpatine ability. And the casual SW audience knows that. This event communicates that this is Rey losing control of herself, losing focus. Even if it's just for a moment, she's dipping into the dark side, which is her biggest fear throughout the film.
Her accidental use of lightning is to show us that. Show us where her head is at. Which immediately afterwards is feeling guilt at what she THINKS she's done.

This, to me, feels like a blatent case of just hating this movie so blindly that you'll look for any excuse to trash talk it and the people who wrote it. It's TLJ backlash 2.0. Only way of describing it.

Really. I do. But I'm sick and tired of nearly 7 months of this bullshit. You are free to like or dislike TROS all you want but there's a way to do it and a way not to. And constantly hating and bashing JJ Abrams or looking for any tiny excuse to make him out to be an idiot or...

This is exactly what happened with Rian Johnson after TLJ and many of the people who defended him then are doing exactly what they fought against with JJ and TROS now. It's déjà vu all over again.
