i think one of the biggest failures of modern media criticism as guided by social media - while *also* being a sign that Disney doesn't know shit - is that the Princess and the Frog is actually fairly popular with people my age and younger.

Because of Dr. Facilier.
IT'S SO FUNNY. like. on one hand, yeah, absolutely, the fact that the (more accurate, anyway) voodoo dude with no shortage of queer-coding is a villain is Not Good!

But also. It's absolutely what that movie has *going for it* the most.
The Princess and the Frog is a movie that was almost so, so, so good. All the parts that actually poke loving fun at New Orleans and let Tiana be Tiana are pretty great - Almost There is a great song, the gumbo scene is A+, and Dr. Facilier is just so fun to WATCH.
Ray is fun! Louis is fun! And then the actual romance and the drive of the plot? Just, absolutely no actual drive or interest.
But it's really easy to go "this movie is bad because this character is a racist depiction-" well no, Dr. Facilier is great, actually, and he's a great /villain/, too

The A-plot just isn't good!
Given all the money and the freedom in the world, I would redo that movie with Tiana and Charlotte as lesbians and they stay human while trying to get Naveen to Mama Odie
