Too many people get the relationship between the US and Israel backwards arsed. Israel was founded as a colonial enterprise by the British empire. It's purpose was to be Britain's local proxy for divide and conquer strategems in the middle east.
The peak of this was the 1956 Suez war, which caused the era of Britain as an independent imperialist power to come crashing down. What is neglected is how the plan was to get Israel to invade Egypt then allowing the British and French to jump in as a "peacekeeping" force.
This plan saw the Israelis invade the Sinai and the Anglo-French invade to "protect" the Suez canal area. Of course this all fell apart but it demonstrates the role that the Israelis played for the British empire.
This relationship was taken over by the USA following the collapse of Britain's colonialist enterprise in 1956. The US took over the leading role in managing the relationship with the two key proxies established by the British - Saudi Arabia and Israel.
Israel has acted on behalf of the USA ever since and continues to do so as does the Saudi theocracy. They are both totally under the control of the US empire. To pretend that this is the other way around is to totally confuse the purpose of the existence of Israel.
Israel was brought into being to serve the British empire now it serves the US. The illusion that the US ever had any real problem with Israeli actions is convenient for both governments. As Trump said about Saudi Arabia the same is true of Israel. Without the US it'd collapse
There will come a time when the US no longer needs Zionism or the relationship is no longer profitable. Then the Israeli rulers will find themselves as disposable as the white Rhodesians, Afrikaners and settler classes who were ditched in favour of more efficient alternatives.
To conclude, the struggle against zionism is in reality a struggle against it's real master, the US empire. Much like other colonial enterprises the real power lies with the imperialist government. To oppose Israel you have tackle the power of the US empire.
