I’m not surprised teams are gaming the player pool to add prospects that won’t play in the majors—and the ethics of that (or lack thereof) will be at least a sidebar to some stuff I’m working on. I am a *little* surprised teams are gaming empty spots to add prospects even later.

I don’t like that teams are bringing back prospects who they clearly have no intention of using in this 2020 season for the sole purpose of player dev, and I especially don’t like that they’re only paying them the UPC rates. There was a better way to do all of this, including not
We could’ve waited another six weeks or whatever the necessary time is and figured out whether it was safe enough to do a prospects league or fall instructs or whatever; there’s less artificial time pressure here with no care about season length/TV rights/etc.
