Donald Trump’s reelection campaign is not going well. I don’t want to jinx it because things could always change, but between Trump’s abysmal showing in election polls and the debacle that was last week’s Tulsa rally, all signs point to a campaign that is flailing and failing.
But even if Trump’s campaign is failing, it can still do a lot of damage. Trump long ago made the decision to cater to his base and only to his base. That base includes constituencies of white nationalists, religious extremists, Islamophobes, and conspiracy mongers.
Any attempts to reset the campaign and attempt to appeal to voters beyond that core collection of extremists will be thwarted by the candidate himself. Here’s what we can expect from the Trump campaign for the rest of the cycle:
2. Demonize, Dehumanize, Destabilize: Donald Trump doesn’t have political opponents or adversaries, he has enemies. And Trump demonizes and dehumanizes his enemies at every opportunity. His pitting Americans against one another further destabilizes our nation.
My theory that as Trump loses support, those who remain w/ him have become even more entrenched in this alternate reality. (ex: QAnon) The Trump coalition has lost whatever moderating influences existed, and those left are just pulling one another deeper into the rabbit hole.
There are just five months to go until the election. Donald Trump can and will do a lot of damage. The best way to put an end to this madness and put America on a new trajectory? https://iwillvote.com/
