Going back early in the summer isn't a bet we are currently making, and we don't intend to given the timescale (and we've said so) but it obviously makes sense - if the virus transmission remains low then breaking up early and going back early makes sense for everyone.
I accept some colleagues will have plans and we'd have to work round that. My main point here though is that if a Trust thinks they can make this work, I don't see any benefit to haranguing them on social media saying it won't. It is clearly one strategy of many that may help.
Another is to make sure the curriculum is efficient, or to add half an hour to the school day, or to prioritise professional learning.

For the record the £1bn tutoring etc fund is a bet I also wouldn't have made.
I'm not sure what we gain by just criticising those who make a different bet when there is some rationale behind the approach.
If you make a different bet, I'm really happy to hear about that as well. I might not make the same one, but we as a Trust are definitely influenced by different responses and ideas so it's helpful to hear - and we'll hear more if we listen and don't knee-jerk criticise.
Finally, I'm aware that last sentence about knee-jerk criticism is rich coming from me, but I wear my 'hypocrites' badge with pride.
