We took our lunches to school in a brown paper bag or a metal lunch box.
We grew up during a time when we would gather glass bottles to take to the store and use the deposit money to buy penny candy. (We even got a brown paper bag to put the candy in.)

You could get a bundle of candy for just 25 cents.
We also mowed lawns, raked leaves, helped friends and neighbors with chores, and worked with our mom’s and dad's in the summer. We went outside a lot to play games, ride bikes, run with siblings and friends.

We played hide and seek, kick the can, jump rope, hopscotch, Red Rover, red light, Mother May I, ghost in the graveyard, kickball, basketball, and even dodge ball. Running thru the sprinklers was just as fun as swimming in the community pool. We drank tap water...

Television had 3 channels. And, you had to move from the couch to actually change the channel. There were no remotes. There were no microwaves or cell phones. And, when the cell phones came into our world,

they were huge bag phones. Texting, Facebook, Snapchat did not exist.
We ate hot and cold cereal at the breakfast table before going to school. We watched TV as a family: Gunsmoke, Gilligan's Island, Carol Burnett Show, Lawrence Welk, I Love Lucy,That Girl,

Walter Cronkite told us the news...real news. News was truly straight facts and no fabrications or personal opinions.

Elmer Fudd actually had his gun and was chasing Bugs Bunny. It was funny. Sunday night’s after church was family movie town or game night with your church friends.

you got in trouble again because your parents already knew.
We would ride our bikes for hours, swing on rope swings, pick 4 leaf clovers, make clover chain necklaces, and talk until the lightning bugs came out.
You LEARNED from your parents instead of disrespecting them

After the fight was over, you were back to being friends or the bullying pretty much ceased. Kids that were around guns were taught how to properly use them and to respect them and never thought of taking a life. Sure, people would lose their cool and have a short fuse,

We said the Pledge of Allegiance, stood for the National Anthem, and listened to and respected our teachers. We watched what we said around our elders because we knew If we DISRESPECTED any grown up we would get our behinds whipped.

It wasn't called abuse. It was called discipline! We held doors, carried groceries, and gave up our seat without being asked. It is called respect. We followed the ‘Golden Rule’. You didn't hear curse words on the radio in songs or on TV. And, if you cursed and got caught,

Retweet if you're thankful for your childhood and will never forget where you came from! Wouldn't it be nice if it were possible to get back to this way of life?
I am thankful for being raised right!!!
