Secularism is a creed. Beyond the specific criticism of any one individual making light of religious/spiritual practice, we must understand that in secular society, the only sacred thing is the self. This stands in diametric opposition to the Islamic belief system. 1/4
Islam is built upon the idea of submission - spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical - to God alone. This means that in all cases, the Self is not the primary, and beyond that, the seeker hopes that their Self will eventually naturally incline toward what God wants. 2/4
Secularism recognizes a kind of spirituality, but not in submitting in/seeking of God, but rather submitting to one's self/seeking a constantly evolving concept of self-actualization, couched in the eternally complicated and never standard idea of "just be a good person." 3/4
One of the grave symptoms of this shift is what we see today - sanctifying of the Self (things like identity and other elements of being) while at the same time seeing casual mockery of religion, which has very much mattered to people since time immemorial 4/4
