Please join me on a tour of the most jaw-dropping beautiful set of Brutalist buildings I have ever seen: the Barbican Estate. Thread to follow:
The estate was built in the 1960s on a vast stretch of central London wiped out during the Blitz. Brutalist architecture at its very best....
It has some really stunning stairs and ramps
The central pool is a beautiful green I’ve never quite seen before
Besides the low, flat buildings, there are three tall towers on the site (quite controversial when first built)
The gardens are bursting with colour at this time of year. Love the contrast with the concrete
The whole thing is built on giant ‘podiums’ - you never really ever interact with a car.
I think this ends the tour thanks for coming along!
