one thing that holds so many well-intentioned people back from real, meaningful allyship is that they absolutely cannot deal with the idea of having their good intentions questioned. ever.
think about just what you are asking for when clinging to, demanding that you constantly be offered that benefit of the doubt; what an immense privilege it is to expect it; and why you just expect it, always, no matter what, when others are far less likely get it.
many are correctly pointing out the importance of intent vs. impact w/r/t harmful behavior. I was also thinking about how the need for comfort, the demand to be trusted w/out earning it, and the fear & resentment around learning+correction keeps many people from doing *anything*.
