I will always fight ppl who claim we're reopening bc Americans are spoiled & fickle, etc. Zeroing in on selfish ppl erases everyone who is trying & terrified. The government failed spectacularly. The whole world is marveling at it. Making this about individual choices is fucked.
If you've decided the people irresponsibly crowding into bars and restaurants are representative of the public, perhaps you should ask yourself why it's them that you see as representative, as opposed to the rest of us.
Blaming individuals is also an abdication of responsibility. We have a duty to fight for each other, to secure what ppl need to survive, bc reopening is a farce. If we're focused on blaming each other, we are not challenging the real enemy or fighting for collective survival.
Yes, I'm furious at the selfish people. Such folks are endangering my people and all of us right now and I'm horrified. But focusing my energy on them will not help. We need to make the means of our collective survival into the cost of order. That's what it will take.
Btw every time you see a rich person echo that we're reopening bc people in the U.S. are lazy or selfish, remember that it's advantageous to them for you to believe that. They don't want you questioning the class dynamics that make all of this infinitely more survivable for them.
No rich person, no matter how forward thinking, wants the riots this system deserves.
Rich liberals are largely fine with some degree of disruption, so long as it does not affect them personally. Mostly, rich folks try to white wash protest and encourage actions that don't actually rock the system in any way. Symbolism and spectacle only.
This is what we're really up against. https://truthout.org/audio/the-cops-are-with-the-fascists-how-police-terror-and-trumpism-converge/
