okay CRASH COURSE INTO MBTI AND COGNITIVE FUNCTIONS 101 to help anitwit stop mistyping characters and yourself
Please. If you genuinely care about typing characters and making MBTI posts in the anitwit community, read this. I'm so tired of seeing characters extremely mistyped because "they do art so they must be the artist type". I can't do it anymore K G;KSD;LK
First of all hello, a short self-introduction. My name is Angie I've been studying cognitive functions and MBTI for eight years! It's my passion and I literally can't stop learning and researching about it! 😊💗 You are always free to DM, reply to the end of the thread
and quote questions or comments to me! Any question big or small! I love educating people about cognitive functions and MBTI since I truly believe it is the best tool for improving yourself as a human and for encouraging empathy and understanding.
CLASS IS NOW IN SESSION 🍎

You've been lied to. If all you know about MBTI are the four letters and http://16personalities.com  and that's what you're using to type yourself and characters, you are using MBTI /WRONG/.

I'm sorry this happened. It's not your fault 😭😭😭
16personalites doesn't mention Cognitive Functions anywhere. This baffles me since Cognitive Functions are literally the source of MBTI. Not the letters.

Cognitive Functions are the hardware and the four letters are just the type of desktop you're using. Does that make sense?
The only reason we use the letters is to UNDERSTAND the function order. So when someone tells me "He's an ENTJ" I know "Ahh...So he's a lead Te user and has inferior Fi." I instantly know his strengths and weaknesses. How to communicate and understand him clearly, etc.
And vice versa if someone told me "His Te is so STRONG. Just Te constantly." I know, okay that means we're looking at an ESTJ or an ENTJ.
"Angie what does any of this mean I'm seriously confused."

Don't worry! It's okay to be confused, it's a lot to take in, but it's actually incredibly simple! I wanted to just use a few examples before I got into the Functions. So let's get into the functions!
What are Cognitive Functions?

🌼 Cognitive Functions are a set of eight functions that determine the way and order your brain perceives and judges. There are four Extraverted Functions and four Introverted Functions.

🌼 Each person has and uses all eight functions
but we /prefer four in our main rotation/. Those top four functions are the formula that makes up which MBTI type we are.

Here are the Cognitive Function formulas for each MBTI type.
This means as an INFP my function stack is Fi, Ne, Si, Te. This cannot change.

This is why you cannot "become another personality" or be "two personality types at once" because each personality has its own unique formula.

You can only develop or weaken your functions.
Think of Cognitive Functions like traits given to you in an RPG game. These are your skills, your charms, your special abilities and weaknesses. You're stuck with them. You can only improve or weaken them.
🌼 Every personality type must have two extraverted and two introverted functions (look at last graph for examples)

🌼 Your last function will ALWAYS be the opposite of your first (example INFPs: Fi first and Te last)

🌼 You can be STRONG in other functions not in your stack
but that /does NOT make you two types/ and /does NOT mean you have both in your stack/. I am a strong Fe user, but Fi is my dominant function. Fi will always be there over Fe.

🌼 An extraverted function must ALWAYS follow and introverted one and vice versa.
That being said let's break down each Cognitive Function and what they do and represent. Starting with the Feeling functions.

Fi - Introverted Feeling

Fe - Extraverted Feeling

(art by MBTI-Raven although their account is deactivated;; So I'm not sure where they are now;;)
To simplify, as Raven-MBTI put it, Fe strives to create harmony and Fi values the uniqueness in self and others.

At a museum, an Fe user may be admiring art, but also focusing on the group they're with. They're making sure no one touches the art or acts too disruptively while
being the "mood maker" and supporter in a group.

Alternatively, an Fi user at a museum is carefully looking over art pieces and getting an impression of feelings from them. "How is this making me feel?" is something an Fi user will ask themselves often.
They're focusing on /their personal/ feelings, instead of the feelings of the group.

THIS DOES NOT MEAN FI USERS ARE SELF.

This is a common misunderstanding - especially made by Fe users. Fi users are not selfish, they can actually be incredibly selfless, even more than an Fe
user. Fi doesn't mean "Let me think only of myself!" It means they feel internally first. "How is this making me feel? How should I respond in a way that speaks true to who I am?"

Summed up:

Fi is Personal Morals, Values, Individuality.

Fe is Empathetic, Harmonic, Collective.
Other examples of Fe vs Fi!
- Also mini introduction of unhealthy functions! Every type has the ability to have unhealthy and toxic functions.

This is why you can know two INFPs and they're extremely different. It's based on their function health and development.
MBTI-Raven sums it up best here 😊💗🌼
Types that lead in Fi are:

ISFPs and INFPs.

Types with Auxiliary Fi are:

ENFPs and ESFPs

Types with Tertiary Fi are:

INTJ and ISTJ

Types with Inferior Fi are:

ENTJ and ESTJ
Types that lead in Fe are:

ENFJs and ESFJs

Types with Auxiliary Fe are:

INFJ and ISFJ

Types with Tertiary Fe are:

ESTP and ENTP

Types with inferior Fe are:

INTP and ISTP
I know what you're thinking "this thread is getting long, I'm still confused".

JUST WAIT, it'll click if it hasn't already.

We only have six more functions to discuss and then I'm going to tell you the method to discovering your TRUE MBTI (and the type of others).
Okay, so moving on to Thinking Functions.

Ti - Introverted Thinking

Te - Extraverted Thinking
To simplify, again as Raven-MBTI put it, Ti looks at logic consistency and Te values efficiency.

When teaching a lesson Ti users will teach you a vast knowledge of information based on what it means to them (Ti logic is personal). A Te user will teach you as concisely and
efficiently as possible. They will ask often "Did you get that?" "Was that clear?" to make sure their concept is understood. (Te is about informing and efficiency - it's very collaborative!)
Ti users are usually in the mindset of "I know what I know. I know what matters."

Where Te users are in the mindset of "What don't I know? Tell me more. I'll decide if it's useful or not."
Ti users usually don't change their minds where Te users are easily swayed with the proper evidence or argument.

Ti is in-depth knowledge where Te is efficient knowledge.

Ti is a Wikipedia page where Te is five bullet points of the most important details.
Types that lead in Ti:

INTP and ISTP

Types with Auxiliary Ti:

ESTP and ENTP

Types with Tertiary Ti:

ISFJ and INFJ

Types with inferior Ti:

ESFJ and ENFJ
Types that lead in Te:

ESTJ and ENTJ

Types with Auxiliary Te:

INTJ and ISTJ

Types with Teritary Te:

ESFP and ENFP

Types with Inferior Te:

INFP and ISFP
Also if I didn't make this clear before

The function stack order is your strongest to weakest function!

So like your dominant function is ALWAYS on.

Your second function is usually always on too but is more like an aid to your first.

Your second and third are pretty close
To each other. Sometimes they csn even interchange when they're both well developed, but the third is usually one you're most aware of. You can usually "see" your third function. And your third function is going to be one you develop at a slower rate.
Your inferior function is really the one you need to study and improve cause it's your biggest weakness but with attention and practice you can make it a strength.

All your other functions should be moving fluidly together to support your leading function.
🚨 Will continue the rest after breakfast! Hehe but thank you guys so much for the support and interest! I'm so glad this is blowing up 😭💗💗💗
Okay! The last two and then I seriously need a nap 😴😴

Se vs Si - What is it?

Si - Introverted Sensing

Se - Extraverted sensing
(We don't have any more art by MBTI-Raven because they never got to the Sensing and Intuitive functions before they deactivated. *sobs*)

Your sensing functions tell you how you are viewing the world and organizing what you SEE, HEAR, TOUCH, etc.
Basically Extraverted Sensors want to ENGAGE in their environment and Introverted Sensors want to ORGANIZE their environment.

Se and Si users on a hike. Se user will be noticing all the sounds, smells, they'll usually have a lot of energy and want to do something RIGHT NOW.
They see a rope and think "OH! I can jump with that!" <--- runs up to it and leaps. Si screams at him to calm the fck down L;KG;LASDLKG

Se user wants to take photos, capture the moment, live in the moment. FEEL the moment as rich as possible.
Si user wants to process the moment. On the hike Si user sees a little girl wearing a backpack that looks identical to the one they used in 5th grade. Now they're missing their childhood home and the way it always smelt like fresh banana bread. They appreciate and ponder the
meaning of these details and when they look up Se user is trying to pet a bear lk gak;lsk JK this is exaggerated but, you get the point.

Si prefers order and law. They want structure and safety. This doesn't mean Si doesn't long for adventure and fun.
They just prefer a stable environment. In a zombie apocalypse, they're the type to say "Why do we need to wonder out? We have the resources we need here. Let's just stay put."

While Se is "We'll run low eventually! There might be something else out there!"
"Let's not wait around! I hate being idle!"

Si trusts in past experiences and organizing its sensory details. If you have an Si lead father he's going to be the type of guy that eats the same cereal every day because he has a "not broken so why fix it" mentality.
"This cereal tastes good and works for me. Why do I need to switch it up?" "I like this restaurant so I'm eating here every Friday after I do my other routines."

Si is routine-oriented, Se is life-oriented.
The question to ask yourself is "How do I prefer to react to my sensory environment? Am I organizing it (Si) or experiencing it (Se)? Do I prefer safety and routine (Si)? Or do I feel safer when I'm moving around and experiencing life (Se)?"
OKAY LAST FUNCTIONS LETS GO.

Ni - Introverted Intuition

Ne - Extraverted Intuition

I like to think of Ni like puzzle pieces and Ne like a web.

Ni prefers to think linearly, they look at one thing and then begin to make connections in "First this happened, then this happened
so this must be the conclusion!" kind of way. It's going to feel more like an epiphany to an Ni user, Ni users will usually be really quiet and then hear a click and go "Ohhhhh. I just figured it out."

Meanwhile, Ne is focused on POSSIBILITIES. They're looking at ALL
the options. Yeah, imagine having anxiety with Ne, it's a nightmare.

Ne bounces off one idea and the other, it isn't linear it's "So, I was thinking we should go to the store on fri- Oh! Wait that reminds me I saw Misty walking her dog this after noon and you know how I said
I didn't want a dog? Well I was watching a TV show on the importance of dogs and how they emotionally can stabilize you and now I think I want one. Oh. Also, we're out of milk."

^^^ Notice how it's "out of order".

Ne is "what if"s - "What if this happened?"
"Or maybe this? Or maybe because of this, this and this happened and this was the outcome!" It's looking at all these possibilities and instead of choosing one is trying to flesh out the new and exciting possibilities of each.

Ni is a river, where Ne is a waterfall.
Lead Ni and Ne user are in an escape room, Ne user is running around looking at as many clues and touching as many buttons and whistles as possible. They are just on "absorb and theorize".

Meanwhile, while Ne is running around,
Ni notices a corner of the room that looks a bit different. Too different to be overlooked. They don't know how or why they noticed this exactly, just that they did. They conclude because it's an escape game the objective is to waste your time until the timer runs out.
And the real important keys will be in areas that you'll miss while being distracted. This will happen, then this in this order...so we can rule this out and....

A moment later Ne turns around and sees Ni holding a key. "I just found it."
Ni is making conclusions and theories based on inner insight and Ne is making conclusions and theories based on outer insight.

Ni is how can we FOCUS.

Ne is how can we EXPAND.
Oops I just realized I forgot to explain which types use Si and Se lamgasdkgl I'M SORRY I'M STILL GROGGY

Now this thread isn't over yet!

I'm going to explain the proper way to typing others and yourself now that we know the Cognitive Functions! I will also go over some extra rules, pitfalls, tips as well as share resources!

First, I seriously need a nap, so I'll be back later 😴
http://keys2cognition.com/explore.htm  In the meantime, I encourage you to take this cognitive functions test (yes the layout does look like it was made in the 90's I'm sobbing). This test as been extremely accurate for me and my friends, I'd say it's about 70% more accurate than 16p.
If anything, it can at least point you in some right direction! But you should really try to depend on discovering your type for yourself rather than relying on tests.
I'd also love to see your guy's results! How about we start a hashtag to share! How about #HowIFunction 😊 That way we can all see and share our results if we want to!
Hello came back to remind you all the tests really shouldn't be the only thing you rely on to know your type 😭😭😭 Cognitive Tests are like mini guides but shouldn't necessarily be /relied/ on. It's better to research and discover for yourself.
Also

RESOURCES 🤩🤩🤩

Youtubers I trust with my whole heart:

https://www.youtube.com/user/DaveSuperPowers

And

https://www.youtube.com/c/FrankJamesChannel
Also watch this video because it's basically a summary of this thread and the most helpful cognitive functions introduction ever
And great site for reading more about your type in helpful, insightful and fun scenarios is https://personalitygrowth.com/  You can search by your type and they have tons of articles written with cognitive function insight 🤩🤩🤩
Basically how you discover your type is by looking at the functions.

We're usually "stuck" between two types. For me it was INFJ and INFP but when I looked at the functions and compared them it was obvious I was a lead Fi instead of a lead Ni.
So yeah, compare, research and discover your true type and keep studying the functions - especially your own! They're amazing tools to become your best self! 😭😭😭💕

I'm going to end this thread here, because I'm exhausted and need a break, but I will start a new
thread in a week or so with additional information! Like how to watch out for "peacocking" (the #1 reasons tests fail), what happens under stress and how to improve unhealthy functions!

But hopefully you've learned and discovered a lot here to keep you going!! 😭😭😭💗💗💗
Thank you all so much for the love and support and I wish you all the best luck on your self discovery journey!

Till we meet again soon ♡😊
Someone pointed out an error to me in the cognitive functions list I posted!! (The one that has all the formulas)

It repeats ENFP twice when it should be ENFP and ENTP.

These are the functions of an ENFP and an ENTP 😊
Also just now realizing a HUGE thing I forgot to mention in Fi vs Fe.

Fe users are extremely empathetic because when someone is in joy or pain they EXPERIENCE that joy or pain with them. Fe users feel the pain as if it's theirs.

Fi users listen to pain, Fe mirrors it.
Fi users are amazing listeners because they're processing your emotions and experience through their system. Imagining all the difficulties you've been through and adding meaning or deciding what it means to them and what choices were good or bad. Fi is authentic and honest.
Fe users don't care about your good or bad choices. If you're in pain they're in pain right there in the moment with you.

Fe is not filtering though anything they're just noticing the emotional OUTPUT in a room and mirroring it.
Fe sees your expression fall, now their expression falls. Fe sees someone in the group looks angered, now they feel angry for them.

Fe is a state of "I've put myself in this person's shoes. Now I understand them."

Fi is a state of "I understand this person through shared
pain and experiences like it."

An Fi user (especially with Si) will regularly use an example of a pain they've felt similarly. "I was once hurt really bad by a guy I liked ....it's not the same but...I understand a little."

Some people find this approach selfish
"They're thinking about themselves when I'm hurt"....No. They're trying to make you not feel alone. Fi users feel emotions INTENSELY.
When an Fi user shares an experience they want you to not feel alone. They want you to know they know even a little of what you feel.

Fi users want to listen, alleviate and understand the pain, Fe users want to share and encourage you through the pain. It's about your needs.
Fe users are more likely to cry listening to someone else cry while Fi users are focused on what is being said what they can do to make you feel safer (emotionally).
Fi users feel personal pain deeper than Fe users.

And fun fact the INFP feels pain deeper than any other type 🥳

This is one of the reasons when I start crying it can last four hours. I can't stop and it feels like my heart is going to explode 🤩
Also I wanted to talk about third functions.

Third functions are going to be the function you're most aware you can turn on or off. It's not your insecurity (inferior function) but it's like the thing you're good but not great at.
For me it's Si. I can decide when to use Si. I can "see" it and turn it on or off.

Third functions are kind of like a switch you can control.

The higher up the stack you get the less control you have.

"Your first function is ALWAYS on. It's the hardest to notice cause you're
always being your first function. You can't turn it off. It's like your heart beat."

^^^^ My INTJ best friend said this the other day and I just thought it was amazing. LMAOO
Your inferior function is the thing that you don't even want to look at, the thing you're most insecure about and the thing you have the most control over.

For me it's Te. Te for me is this nagging voice in my head that tells me what I should be doing and criticizes me.
But Te is also the thing that motivates me SO hard. I get burnt out using it, I get burnt out having to go down a list and write emails and make appointments and contact that and buy this, but Te always makes sure I'm getting it done even if I'm slow LAMDOA 🥺 *thanks Te*
ANOTHER FUN WAY TO VISUALIZE FUNCTIONS

Imagine them like Inside Out. You have four functions living in your brain, in the control center.

Fi is always there for me at control guiding me with the buttons and Ne is usually key smashing, letting me imagine fantasy scenarios or
showing me different things to do today *pop up ads appear on screen when Ne is at control* LMAO

In the background Si is organizing files and creating sticky notes and flash cards

And Te is cleaning and yelling, constantly complaining that we never get anything done LMAO
I just think this is a fun way to kind of imagine it! I don't always see my functions this way but it is cute to 😊

And there's an artist who actually does an amazing job at illustrating an INTPs cognitive "Inside Out" Let me go find them 👀
Here's the artist http://cognitivefunctionscomics.tumblr.com  I highly rreccomend them! They've drawn the functions of other types too like ISFP and INFP and some others in comics! But if you're an INTP or think you might be one definitely check this out!! 😊💗
