One of reasons @BluskyeAllison's essay (on her crowdfunder) about her life & opinions - following @jk_rowling's - is so welcome is it demolishes the idea that gender critical feminists are all or mainly conservative stooges/bigots in disguise (*I'm not saying none are).
No: She's a lifelong gay & lesbian rights activist, anti-racist feminist with a working-class background. & those who tried to shut her down did this because she doesn't fit their narrative.
I've never spoken to Allison btw, or @ALLIANCELGB or @jk_rowling. But I am utterly sick of women - including colleagues @HadleyFreeman & @suzanne_moore & groups such as @Womans_Place_UK - being smeared & denounced for standing up for women's rights.
I think it's massively destructive how much energy is sucked into this fight, especially for the left. We should be working on climate & loads of other stuff. But i won't stand by while the feminism i believe in is traduced
& single-sex spaces and sports are taken off us (& our daughters, neighbours, friends) while we get slagged off for making a fuss.
I can scarcely believe the lack of support - even for a discussion! - from Labour MPs, especially feminists. Stonewall's #nodebate tactic is partly to blame: was there *ever* another campaign for law reform that told people not to think/talk about it? What about in Parliament?
i've done the All About Trans training with Juno Dawson & spent hours with Ruth Hunt. I'm all for people expressing themselves however they like, and being protected from discrimination. But i agree with Allison Bailey: the erosion of sex as a category harms women.the end.
