okay, now I'm 𝘳𝘦𝘒𝘭𝘭𝘺 mad.

A THREAD:
Secondly, you're hardly the first person to tell us something that amounts to 'if you don't like it fuck off'. "Let's see you publish your own journal and then we can talk" - well, funny you should day that, because I did exactly that when I created Djed Press. So can we talk?
I got called 'humble' the other day and I laughed because I'm really not. I'm quite smug actually. And so, allow me to hop on my smug, self-righteous high horse for a minute and show you what 𝘒𝘀𝘡𝘢𝘒𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘭π˜ͺ𝘴𝘡𝘦𝘯π˜ͺ𝘯𝘨 to your readers looks like.
(With all the usual caveats around Djed not being perfect, and we show this as an example method not as a perfect method)
In 2018, I published a piece by one of my featured authors. I did everything according to my guidelines: it was sent to [what I thought was] an appropriate editor, I did the second check, it all looked good to me.

Less than a day later, I had a friend in my inbox.
They were the first person to alert me to the fact that I had published a pretty offensive and tone-deaf piece. You can read how that initial conversation went.
The day after that, they messaged me again with more feedback, and asking for a contact email, which I provided.
The next person to provide feedback sent an email, two days after the piece was published. They were also very unhappy and let me know that in no uncertain terms.
By that point, thanks to being alerted to it and having been given the chance to think and act the day before, I was able to send this response within an hour of receiving that email.
After that, both because I was hideously embarrassed and uncomfortable and because of how little I knew on the topic of Tamil persecution in Sri Lanka, I spent about 2 weeks reading as much as I could, as well as going back to the person who messaged me for feedback.
Can you spot the difference, @VerityLa?

Next time before you tell people to 'publish their own journal', talking about stones and glass houses, consider this: Some of us π˜₯𝘰 manage a publication, we've made errors, been called out. But we still managed to react better that you.
