The "Thistlewood Diaries" are the diaries of Thomas Thistlewood who was a Scottish overseers on 3 Jamaican plantations for a total of 23 years

His nephew comes to visit

He tells his nephew to pick one BW to sexually assault for the length of this visit 1/n
But one BW is off limits

She is the wife of a BM slave who is a respected leader among the slaves

His nephew ignores his warnings and later rapes the women

A few days later his nephew's dead body is found floating face down in a pound

Thistlewood suspected that...
2/n
+ the BM slave leader must has murdered his nephew

But he COULD NOT RETALIATE because he & the other whites were a MINORITY on the island

If he retaliated it would trigger an uprising because that BM was so respected by the other slaves

It would have taken days...
3/n
+ for a British naval ship somewhere in the Caribbean to reach their island to rescue the white ppl

So Thislewood did nothing to avenge his nephew's murder

He couldn't do anything because they were OUT NUMBERED by the black enslaved population in Jamaica
4/n
+ In the USA Black ppl were in the MINORITY

No enslaved ADOS slave could have murdered the nephew of a head overseer and gotten away with it

Slavery in the Caribbean was not the same as it was here in the USA

From the Thislewood Diaries👇🏾
5/n
Slaves in the Caribbean could actually murder white ppl and get away with it

No enslaved ADOS male could have gotten away with something like that

Caribbean slavery was greatly impacted by the Black demographic advantage

Caribbean slavery =/= American slavery
