Two worlds, since Iizuka mentioned that Sonic's adventures are in two worlds, fandom has started to speculate a thousand times about what this means. (1/7)
Let's start with the basics, which is that Iizuka being japanese got it all wrong from the translation, not coincidentally ''sekai'' (world in Japanese) has so many meanings beyond 'the world'; as shown in the images it also has social meanings and... generations (2/7)

Now it's time to... Classic Sonic, in Forces Tails mentions that it comes from another dimension, which is not actually stated in the original jappi scripts, in fact it says, "another world"

Nevertheless, in SXSW 2019, Iizuka said that Modern Sonic is in one timeline and Classic in another.That's what his translator said.
But as I listen to him,he mentions Modern in his timeline,and for Classic he says "sekai",so I'd say this is a case similar to MMX and MMZero.(6/7)

In conclusion, given the Japanese grammar, the presence of the Chao world and the future Silver world, I'd say we're in one of those cases of translation and adaptation errors
