Acting DHS No. 2 Ken Cuccinelli wrote an op-ed about the deaths of Patrick Underwood, a federal security officer, and George Floyd . A few points of clarification:

Underwood was killed in a targeted attack on law enforcement, as Cuccinelli writes.

The murder took place on the same night as protests over Floyd's death. But the alleged killer specifically wrote he was co-opting that movement.

Countering extremism, especially home-grown , is part of DHS' mission. DHS has not publicly warned of the boogaloo movement except criticize a Politico story on a non-public intel report. In his piece, he writes: "How do we prevent the death of another Patrick Underwood? We don’t allow lawlessness in our streets. We don’t allow murder to go unpunished. We work to find solutions to these issues."
