/ FEDERAL ELECTION COMMISSION ON ICE AGAIN: Commission will lose quorum with resignation of Republican Caroline Hunter, scoops @dlippman https://www.politico.com/news/2020/06/26/fec-caroline-hunter-resigns-341396
/ After lacking the power for 9+ months to enforce or regulate campaign finance laws, the @FEC regained this power earlier this month when Republican Trey Trainor received Senate confirmation and took his oath. https://publicintegrity.org/politics/federal-election-commission-regains-powers-with-new-member/
/ Trey Trainor became the @FEC's chairman last week at the agency's first meeting since August 2019. http://davelevinthal.com/blog-trey-trainor-fec-elections/
/ Now, it appears the @FEC won't be able to attend to its high-level functions for weeks, and probably months to come. The agency that is responsible for enforcing federal campaign finance laws will be unable to do so in the midst of presidential/congressional elections.
/ It didn't have to be this way. President Trump chose to only nominate one @FEC commissioner instead of two or three to fill other vacant seats. Democrats has proposed Trump nominate Shana Broussard to the bipartisan body, but he ignored them. https://publicintegrity.org/politics/fec-federal-election-commission-trump-mcconnell-schumer/
/ Bottom line? President Trump and the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate will have caused the @FEC — the agency charged with enforcing and regulating federal campaign finance laws — to be effectively sidelined for most of the 2020 election.

/ Also, some serious shade from Caroline Hunter to @EllenLWeintraub — long at odds with one another — on Hunter's way out the door.
