Lawyers are often wrong about this, by the way. Lawyers usually only tell you the risks IF YOU GET INTO a lawsuit; they do not tell you the risks OF GETTING INTO a lawsuit. https://twitter.com/LeeFlower/status/1276508105464074242
As an example, the University of Michigan medical system started following a policy where they would investigate errors, and admit when they made them to patients.

Result? Malpractice lawsuits went down.

Why? Most people *really* want to know that someone paid attention and if something bad happened to them, things will change.
“We fucked up; we’re sorry; here’s how we’re fixing it” actually does a lot more to fix things than filing a long drawn out lawsuit that nobody ever actually wins.
In the present situation, very few actual victims want to sit through three years of discovery with the lawyer of the person who hurt them asking them increasingly invasive questions.
So this isn’t legal advice, but lawsuits suck and do absolutely no good for anyone, and most people actually know this and if you offer a resolution that is ANYTHING OTHER THAN A LAWSUIT that’s probably going to be the solution.
