Significant attack against a hard target in an exclusive part of Mexico City. This is a great reminder that the presence of armed security alone will not protect you from an attack. 1/2
Such an attack requires significant planning and preparation -- and the attackers are vulnerable to detection as they progress through their attack cycle. Protective intelligence is a critical element to help protect potential targets in high threat situations. 2/2
Some of the weapons used in the attack.
Very interesting how they used the truck to transport and conceal the attack team. This was not a half-baked attack. These guys were serious.
I've also seen some suggesting that the release by the GOM of information pertaining to gangs in CDMX and Mexico State is the reason for this attack. But I don't buy it. This attack took far longer than 24 hours to plan and prepare.
Things like trained security drivers, armored vehicles and armed security teams are great tools, but if you allow a potential attacker to conduct unhindered surveillance on your security operations, they will be able to identify vulnerabilities ---
and bring enough force to overcome your security measures. That is why it is critical to deny them the ability to freely conduct surveillance.
