Usually it takes more than 4 months for history to repeat itself. But here we are.

THREAD

Politicians still haven't wrapped heads around the dynamics of #COVID19.

Some truths:

1) You aren't seeing what's happening *today* you're seeing what happened 5-7 days ago.

1/
2) The number of cases isn't as important as the speed of spread. Once you have several days of increasing cases in a row, you've got a big problem...

3) ...because when it hits peak spread, it doubles in 2-3 days.

Put all that together...

2/
...and it means that by the time your daily case numbers show a week of increasing cases, you're WAY behind on trying to curb it.

In fact, you could be looking at an undercount by a factor of 4-16x because of points #1 & #3.

You need to act. You needed to act 1-2 wks ago.

3/
"slowing down" or "pausing" on opening up isn't going to stop that kind of spread. It's clearly spreading because it has the viral equivalent of oxygen & kindling it needs: HUMANS

The only way to slow down the spread of a fire--or a #pandemic--is to TAKE AWAY what it needs

4/
But here's the problem, too many politicians in states with raging outbreaks have bowed to the political pressure to oppose mask ordinances, oppose lockdowns, oppose #publichealth measures in general...so have no tools left to tackle this outbreak...

5/
So what should the likes of @dougducey, @GregAbbott_TX, and others do?

Swallow your damn pride. Reinstate partial lockdowns. Pass mask ordinances. Model the practices that can save your residents' lives.

It's called leadership. Show some.
