From 2008 the newspapers in J&K started losing Government advertisements. In 2010, the curtailment of ads became a new normal. Those adversely impacted were the Jammu-based Kashmir Times, edited by @AnuradhaBhasin_ and the Srinagar-based @RisingKashmir and @GreaterKashmir & Uzma.
In 2016, the then coalition government banned publication of another Srinagar-based English daily @KashmirReader; a prominent HR defender @KhurramParvez was arrested. This was another low and a new normal. The civilian casualties in 2008-10-16 civilian agitations were colossal.
Both coalition governments headed by @JKNC_ and @jkpdp systematically curbed media freedom, stifled democratic dissent, arrested HR defenders, and were directly or indirectly responsible for civilian killings, use of lethal weapons like pellet-firing shotguns, bullets, teargas.
All Unionists have been treated harshly. Some were briefly detained or placed under house arrest in guest houses or their own official residences. Some are asked to vacate their residences. That said, it'd be prudent on their part not to deliver lectures on HR and media freedom.
