Imo up to 16/17 there’s not to much criticise ENIC about. Their plan was always clear to grow the club organically with the stadium being the central pivot to that. Then whether by luck or judgement (probably a bit of both) Spurs assembled a team capable of a title challenge2/10
Over a 5 year period we got very close but never got over the line. Who’s fault was that ? Well in a sense we were ahead of schedule most would have been happy just to get top 4 in those years. What you have to also remember is in that time we put £300-400m cash into stadium3/10
This was obviously a strategic decision by the club. In terms of football the decline probably started from 17/18 with the move to Wembley. We had an ok Summer Sanchez Aurier llorente and Moura in January. To maintain top 4 while still at Wembley was a great achievement 4/10
But the summer of 18/19 was what really killed us. Who knows exactly what went on. But obviously there was great uncertainty due to a completion date on the stadium. So I have to give levy some mitigating circumstances for no buys. Somehow though we still got top 4 and 5/10
Incredibly reached a CL final. Levy must have been ecstatic his master plan had done x10 Better than he ever could have dreamt. Everything was perfectly set up for a wonderful 19/20 and the money from new stadium revenue was spent £175m. But then who knows what happened 6/10
Everyone should have been bouncing with optimism. But some strange words from Pochettino didn’t really help matters. Our star signing failed to produce the other was injured. And some players went into an unexpected decline. Maybe one day we will get the truth what happened7/10
Now to compound things further our massive cash cow is out of action. Levy went from perfect at start of 19/20 to a full blown crisis by March. Unfortunately this will almost certainly set back the grand plan a couple of years until Covid passes and stadium fully operational8/10
Liverpool model was essentially the same as ours. Ultimately FSG are a sports investment company they aren’t a sugar daddy. The major differences imo were Klopp is just better than Pochettino and they bought better. Spurs net spend was the same and now even more 9/10
But I still have reasons for optimism. As said at the start of 19/20 we were at a perfect point. The stadium minus annual repayments will mean we have circa an extra £75-100m a year for players. And I do believe it will be spent on players. So hang in there it will happen COYS
