for the longest time i have been trying to arrange my thoughts and sentiments regarding inarizaki's banner, so i suppose here is a thread on reconciling seemingly contradicting ideas (and the significance of memories)
as a team, inarizaki's philosophy is to forget about the past and focus on the present. after all, a lost point is nothing but a lost point. dwelling on the past while playing in a match is pointless because the moment someone else serves, the past rally has long been over.
this mindset propels them to try new things without looking back because they dont let the baggage of burdening yesterdays to sit on their shoulders. after all, to let go of the past is to let go of previously held expectations, so when they play, they only play for the present.
most obvious embodiment of this idea is atsumu, a player driven by the challenge posed by todays, a player who doesnt believe in being shackled by previous mistakes, and most especially, a player only focused on endless possibilities.
however, we have someone in their team who doesnt necessarily agree with their motto—their captain, kita, who believes in the importance of holding on to the past. as said here, the road doesnt only stretch forwards; to get to where you are now, you must have come from somewhere.
it is the journey that kita deems more significant, not the destination it leads to. the memories of the past are what builds up the present and the future, so what good does it make to disregard them?
i guess it may seem that these two ideals contradict each other, but i dont believe that they are mutually exclusive. it is correct to say that every second we have lived through contributes to who we are now, but it is also correct to see the present as a chance to start anew.
i guess the point im trying to make is perfectly encapsulated by these statements from kita and atsumu respectively. their muscles were acquired through rigorous work in the past—a physical representation of memories—which, in the end, is all that is really needed.
who we are now is the convergence of things we have done in the past, but who we decide to be is entirely up to us. we don't need to be bound by memories—

because they are already invariably part of our identity.
somehow i managed to condense all my thoughts about their banner into nine tweets!!! be proud of me, really, ive been thinking about this shit for weeks now??? anyway, this has been brought to you by my love for these foxes <3
