The NHRC has released its report on the 15th December Jamia violence today.
Burden of the report is to repeat and reiterate the police narrative of how the events unfolded on 15th&13th Dec 2019 when the first protest call was given.

While parroting the police version, it even gives pious homilies on the limits of Article 19, the freedom of speech. You'd almost think this was not the NHRC speaking, but the Home Ministry.
So even when in the end, it recommends compensation to those students
who were grievously injured in the police action on "humanitarian grounds", it means nothing as it has already accepted the police claims of who is to blame for the violence, and has already tarnished the legitimacy of those protesting against the discriminatory CAA.
It further recommends to the Government of India to direct the Delhi Police to set up an enquiry into the police action. So, what were you doing for six full months? Leave aside the fact that the police is always reluctant to investigate its own, in this matter
where the police establishment has vehemently denied any wrongdoing on their part, even in face of video evidence, what are NHRC's expectations from such an enquiry precisely?
Did the NHRC summon any senior police officer involved in the handling of the police action at Jamia?
Has it sought to identify any of those who can be seen on video footage?
It can't just pass the buck to a departmental enquiry.
Continuing its Home Ministry worldview, the NHRC asks the Jamia adminstration to "share information" and improve its "liaisoning with local police".
In other words, NHRC would rather that Jamia administration should act as the LIU.
Jamia Students don't need sarkari compensation. They need an acknowledgment of the injustice that was perpetrated on them and their institution on 15th Dec.
Reject this farcical enquiry by NHRC.
