We've been trying to incorporate some BLM and Black history stuff into our homeschooling these past fews weeks. I skipped the school suggestion of The Water Cycle as topic work bc this is more important I think
This is a good kid-friendly short podcast on Windrush https://www.historystorytime.com/e/windrush-1592793898/
They also did one on the slave trade. We listened together and afterwards I used some conversation starter questions https://www.historystorytime.com/e/the-slave-trade/
For my nearly eleven year old (Year five) I asked 'why do you think...' 'how do you think that felt...?' kind of questions, but with younger kids you can ask more factual comprehension style things. I think the important thing is to encourage empathetic thinking
The two things I kept reading in those 'how to argue with racists' threads is to humanise victims of racism and to encourage empathy. So you can start that now
BBC newsround is *so good* at things like this, here's a short programme about George Floyd and the protests

This is a free resource pack on racism, you have to create an account but the website is so good and there are loads of other free worksheets and packs so it is worth it https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/ks2-what-is-racism-information-powerpoint-t-tp-2550128
This one is about the protests, for KS2 kids. You can use it as a comprehension task or a formal writing prompt. Get the kids to present it as a news bulletin https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/uks2-black-lives-matter-protests-daily-news-story-t-wn-1262
Some more info if the kids have questions about the protests etc

I haven't been on here much but there were loads of reading lists being shared on Insta, here's a good list of books to check out (support your local black owned booksellers)

Scholastic also have lesson plans and resources, they're aimed at teachers so some of this relies on class discussions etc. You'll have to adapt and have those conversations with your kids instead of with their classmates
