I had another look at the Saqqara mission team photo of 2019. The photo was taken by Nicola dell’Aquila, photographer at the Museo Egizio.

The photo was taken on one of the last days of the season. The group in the picture grew somewhat organically (the group of the right arrived later).

Front and centre: Salah el Deen Hasaballa, the mission’s local agent and to his right, Mohamed Fawzy, foreman.

The group consists of several subgroups of people that worked closely together. At the centre, in the back: Assam Rashed, Paolo Del Vesco and Adel Othman.

At the back, to the right, field directors Lara Weiss and Christian Greco.

To the left: SCA inspector Yousri Ali Abdel Azeem; to the right: one of the SCA guards who is at the site year round.

This is Mohamed Ramadan and I. We worked closely together in some rough, dusty and dark underground situations.
