Rural, Urban- My final word.

1) As someone who has been a city boy out and out, having spent my years in Chandigarh, Ahmd and Mumbai, I admit my exposure to rural areas is limited. We do have a house in our village where we went during vacations.
2) But, working in govt hospital, I have interacted with a lot of rural patients, both in Maharashtra and Gujarat. The common factor is, patients coming from those areas are often illiterate, and unaware of their diseases.
3) If life in rural areas was as good as ppl claim, why do ppl leave villages to work at construction sites in cities? Coz agriculture doesn't pay enough. Which is ironic, since ppl claim India is an agrarian economy.

In which agrarian economy does agriculture not pay?
4) Unnecessary modernization is an oxymoron. Something has been invented bcoz there was a necessity for it. From landlines to cordless to Nokia to Apple and Android. Phones evolved coz ppl wanted more. Its a human nature.
5) You cannot be using "Twitter for iOS" and lament about unnecessary modernization. You bought Apple phone even when Karbonn and Lava were available. Or even Nokia Asha for that matter.

With progress, there is always a price. It's all about what we are willing to exchange.
6) Horse driven carriages seem environment friendly now. Wrong. When the cars came, ppl were relieved coz they were sick of all the horse manure on streets.

Thats what I am saying. Instead of arguing on why Ayurveda is better than Allopathy, or horses are better than cars...
7)...speak on how our agrarian economy can be converted a manufacturing based economy. Agriculture plays a role in all economies, but nowhere is it such a big strain on economy. We need to work around that.
8) So, screw this rural-urban debate, coz there is a lot more to talk about. The fact that you are using a smartphone, internet and social media makes you more privileged than 80% of rural public. So, quit the hypocrisy and embrace the future.
