Born in 1999 and aged 21, Alex Collado has been amongst Barcelona's B top performers this and last season. This has caused some attraction from a few fans-But how good is he really?
If Puig is on everyone's lips as top talent, Pimienta has regularly used Alex Collado in his XI throughout the year. A natural advanced midfielder, yet Collado has been mostly deployed on the wings, whether on the left, or on the right-The latter being the usual case.
Most would assume he's therefore a hybrid, a mix between a winger and a midfielder. Yet, this ain't it. He's both. When he's deployed as interior, he will link artistically the midfield to the front three, when he is a winger he will stay wide like a natural winger.
Yet, him being able to provide width is what makes him special. If most winger stay wide and rely on dribbling, Alex has an exceptional vision due to his natural midfield role-And therefore breaks the lines, whether from the wide areas or the central areas.
There are a few profiles like Collado's, yet Barcelona recruited another talented player similar to Collado: Francisco Trincão. The difference being he isn't a La Masia product and isn't a natural midfielder.
More than his vision, Collado excells in breaking the lines. Whether it's on the ball or him dropping in between the opponent's defensive lines, his reading of the game is perfect; His tactical discipline makes it seem like he's a winger. He surely deserves better than call ups.
For now, he has played against Valencia and a few other minutes. For me, to rest Leo, he's a perfect choice. His mobility is something that should be taken advantage in a rather horizontal team. This is Alex Collado.
