After 1983 Kinnock used the imperative for party ‘unity’ as a hammer with which to shatter (& coopting some of) the Bennite left. Benn’s implacable hostility to his leadership only made that task easier.

It looks like Benn’s heirs have not learnt from that experience.
Benn’s defiant public defence of Militant as ‘good socialists’ despite in private having misgivings is echoed by his heirs’ refusal to accept that the Peake interview contained a blatant antisemitic trope & that RLB’s apology for retweeting was inadequate.
If they persist in their ‘all out war’ it’s likely to end like the charge of the Light Brigade. Labour members tend to show loyalty to their leaders rather than supporting their critics. Look what happened in 2016.
