This public records-related provision just passed in a bill in the House.

Excludes any records part of a "death investigation" from becoming public record. It also says those records "shall not" become public record. #ncga #ncpol
"Unnatural" or "unexpected" deaths include deaths that occur in jails, prisons, correctional institutes or in police custody. #ncga #ncpol

When such deaths happen, they're reported to the medical examiner. If the ME determines the death falls under their jurisdiction...
They can begin the investigation.

This provision specifically says *all* public records provided to the ME, which I assume would include death certificates, autopsies, etc., which are currently public record. #ncga #ncpol
Here's the part I'm unsure about. One part of the provision says records provided to the ME *aren't* public record *unless* they were otherwise public somewhere else in the process. #ncpol #ncga
