The GOP loves to say Dems voted against the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Well.....in the Senate, 47 Dems FOR; 17 against; 4 not voting; 30 Republicans FOR; 2 against. https://www.govtrack.us/congress/votes/89-1965/s78 1/3
Now let's move to the House and the 1965 Voting Rights Act. 221 Dems voted FOR; 62 voted against it; 10 were not voting. On the GOP side, 112 FOR; 25 voted against it; and 5 were not voting. https://www.govtrack.us/congress/votes/89-1965/h87 So it's a LIE that Dems opposed 60s-era civil rights bill. 2/3
Just like in the 1860s when it came to slavery and Jim Crow, SOUTHERN DEMS favored those things and NORTHERN DEMS opposed them. That continued through the Black Freedom Movement. But TODAY, which party stands tall with the Confederacy? The @GOP. Class is DISMISSED. 3/3
