uhh hq thread??:

i think about hirugami and kiryu a lot and how they both have had a lot of anxiety about playing their respective sports and how kiryu is afraid of letting his team down and his hirugami fell out of love with volleyball like,,,that hits home HARD
like being a competive person, you sometimes get to the point where you not only wanna dissapont others but yourself, and it’s hard to not have a destructive relationship with improvement, but also recognizing ur faults and ur limitations.
sports can be really taxing on a persons mental health. all it can take to fall out of it is some bad experiences with teammates and bad coaches. same thing with akaashi! he doesn’t want to let his team down but constantly compares himself to others to the point where he’s-
no longer able to play. i just love how furudate captures the mental toll of sports. because yes, it’s a sport, yes, it’s just a game, but it doesn’t mean it’s not worthwhile to someone to the point where it almost consumes them. they feel like everyone depends on them to-
do well and contribute to a team effort. and more often than not, impress their families or themselves because they feel like it’s the only thing that they’re good at. Furudates able to show that it’s ok to fall in and out of love with sports, it’s ok to not come back at all.
He shows that you are not alone when it comes to your internal struggles. you shouldn’t feel guilty for quitting, not should you feel awkward for taking some time and realizing you miss something and come back to it. honestly, his writing is so accurate and beautiful.
wgejb wow this was long but. this just really resonates with me, as someone who fell in and out of love with a sport but still enjoys it despite no longer playing :’)
