Lots of north vs south discussion with regard to TIF at the KCMO Council that assumed a racial divide. The big Northland TIFs are paying for public infrastructure. As I've noted most #GreenHillsKC walkers are not white.
The #LineCreekValley is diverse and there are affordable apartments. Unfortunately these apartments are on unimproved roads and the nearest bus stop is usually 1/2 mile away. We need to stop stereotyping north as uniform rich white suburbanites (as Yael used to 24/7).
Bc doing so divides the city. Assuming everyone has a car puts those without in daily danger. TIF when used in partnership with taxing jurisdictions and on public improvements betters KCMO for everyone. Hate new sprawl but keep in mind parts of KC North were built in the 1920s
The lady in the picture tonight will soon (hopefully) have an improved 2/3 lane street funded with a $2M federal grant and $2M from a Platte Co road sales tax with PIAC paying for design and ROW. Partnerships better KCMO. Incorrect assumptions along race/geography lines do not.
What I term as bad TIF which only pays for private improvements and solely for private profit needs to stop. That would be all your DT TIFs. It also would be your Chouteau, Antioch, Metro North, Brywood, etc which redid crappy retail.
