I decided to go into DC since there are also supposed to be protests/etc tonight and I think it’s really important that there’s honest coverage aka people that keep recording when they’re told to stop and I obviously blend in more than other conservative press people
But my Uber from Arlington dropped me off in the wrong place so I have quite a walk to where I think the protests are actually supposed to be lol. In the meantime I’ll just be taking pictures of what I see
From where I got dropped off
A relatively small group of maybe 30 (I’m horrible at eyeballing estimates) protesters just marched to the Capitol, they seem completely peaceful
The guy that was leading the march is now giving a speech about gun control and red flag laws...really bizarre considering DC has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country
The speech moved from legalizing marijuana to how denying DC statehood is “oppressing black voices” 
Might be time to put my mask back on because I’m struggling keeping my expressions in check during this speech lol
DC statehood is now being framed as a “human rights issue”

The crowd is slowly thinning out, no disrespect to the speakers but these speeches seem to epitomize this “movement” in the worst way. Theyre all over the place, so incoherent and the objective really isn’t clear

The protest I was followed seemed perfectly peaceful, but they crossed paths with a more...”colorful” group that are a lot more hostile and confrontational with police
There’s a skinny Hispanic kid with a Grubhub bag throwing small sparklers (I think that’s what they’re called?) at the police
They put police tape up and people tore it down and threw it at them
This guy was yelling at an officer saying he’d fuck his daughter than after video cuts off he was saying to his friend he wished he saved his sparklers then his friend goes “THE STINK BOMB” they start laughing and leave and say they’re gonna come back
It sounds like fireworks have started close by
