When I was in the fifth grade after learning about the Trail of Tears I asked my teacher where did all the Natives go & she replied that they were "all gone now." & so I lived some parts of my life thinking that all Natives were dead & not realizing that I was Native myself.
& I think that goes to show the ignorance that the Mexican community has in its own idea of self-identity. The majority of the Mexican & Mexican-American population is Mestizo, yet they will claim their Spaniard side 9 times out of 10 before claiming they're indigenous.
I've seen blatant ignorance, pride, & discrimination from Mexicans towards any Indigenous group calling people from Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz, Guatemala, El Salvador, & Honduras (The most indigenous places in Meso America.) Calling them inferior, ugly, & rude.
I mean did we see how Mexicans reacted toward the Central American Caravan? They were yelling at the Hondureños & Salvadoreños to go back to their country. (Ring a bell anyone?) & yet Mexicans glorify states like Jalisco, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Michoacan (The whitest states)
Mexican families discriminate against their own loved ones as well, abuelas constantly calling lighter skin babies with blue eyes "las mas bonitas" then turn & look at their beautiful brown grand children & say, "Ay pobrecita, tiene la cara de Indio" LIKE WTF!!!
Hispanic Parents will consistently tell their daughter to never date a black dude but when she dates a white dude, she's, "Mejorando la sangre." & then Mexicans have this prideful ass hatred towards Salvadorans ?? "Cerote"?? REALLY?? SOMEONE EXPLAIN WHY MEXICANS BEING DUMB AF
& don't even get me started on the brainwashing of religion 😓 Like how do you go from the Indigenous Goddess Tonantzin to "La Virgen de Guadalupe"? Mexicans & Mexican American Mestizo will always proudly say they're "Mexican" but never claim they're Indigenous.. Stupidity
Light skin Mexicans (Just like Cubans) will always cater to the White Americans before they will love their Indigenous & African families because they see White people as a reflection of themselves & see African & Indigenous folk constantly as the "other"
So please y'all... To my Mexicans & my light skin hispanics please have these conversations with your families, I'm tired of this toxic ignorance in our culture. Talk to your parents & always fight for other groups of people outside of your culture. All love.
