This thread is getting a lot of traction but it makes some sweeping + misleading generalizations. It is not true that "no one gets turned away from doctors due to lack of funds" or that "those laid off in Canada don’t face the worry of losing their health insurance." #cdnhealth https://twitter.com/wendellpotter/status/1276158510955401216
Canada's single-payer system covers the bare minimum of primary care and emergency services — no dental, mental health, physiotherapy or universal pharmacare coverage.
Extended coverage is largely dependent on being employed, so millions of Canadians lost this due to #COVID19

And people who do not have the admin resources to renew their provincial/territorial care cards — many of whom are street-entrenched — often have their coverage cancelled, meaning they can be and are turned away from care they are entitled to.
So yes, we do have the bare minimum covered in theory, but any prescriptions we need after we meet with a doctor for free, any physio, any counselling — we are still very dependent on being employed to pay for any of it #cdnhealth #cdnpoli
