*takes white people by the shoulders* guys... i liked j*nna m*rbles too but please... it's not our place to be deciding whether she's a good ally or not kdsfakfk can that please not be the only part of this conversation, it's missing the point.
white people, this is what we do, we have a desire to sympathize with other white people while ignoring the work of extending kindness to the people actually hurt by white actions. in the process, we even vilify the people hurt for talking about it.
it's not being nice. it's being selectively nice. it always feels like we're working on a personal level with people, as individuals, but we aren't. we are working the same way all white people always work. we need to look at that for what it is.
i'm not saying j*nna m*rbles is satan, i don't think anybody is saying that tbh. but we need to stop talking about her like she's the only person involved in this and we DEFINITELY need to stop talking like she's the victim here.
criticizing whiteness isn't just about criticizing the obviously abhorrent racists. it's criticizing people you like, your friends, yourself, when these things come up. your idea of appropriate behavior isn't universal.
