Today's #SCOTUS decision, w/ Ginsburg ruling AGAINST asylum seekers, is a systematic attack not only on immigrant rights but repro justice. This decision attacks one of the many core tenets of our work, ppl deserve to parent their children in a healthy environment
Much appreciation to the folks who have uplifted this decision as a disastrous one for repro justice.
To summarize, this decision means:
1. asylum seekers who are denied have no right to be heard by a judge
2. This fast tracks deportation proceedings for thousands of asylum seekers.
3. Sets a dangerous precedent for officer discretion w/ little to no oversight.
I will add that this decision also creates some uncertainty for future procedural rules for ppl who do not have papers.
While we look at our repro justice work under the same scope, the #SCOTUS case, although ruling majorly for procedural rules for undocumented folks, I wouldn't put it past the state to use this in an argument refusing other types of services like healthcare to undocu folks.
