Follow along for some live tweets tonight as Roanoke County Public Schools unveils its school reopening plan during a special school board work session. Of note: This is the first Roanoke Valley district to release a complete plan.
Currently, Superintendent Ken Nicely is giving a rundown on priorities:
-Safety is most important
-They want students in-person ASAP
-Reading development crucial for younger students
-Health dept. says it would be "ill-advised" to ignore physical distancing

Here’s RoCo’s proposed plan, answering the big question:
•Pre-K through 2nd grade will be in the classroom
daily
•3-12 will be in person twice a week
•100% remote for anyone who wants it

Health details:
•No field trips or family lunch visits (Sorry, kids
)
•Daily health checks, details TBD
•Desks 6+ ft apart
•No more perfect attendance awards bc they don’t want to incentivize kids going to school sick (yes, this came up!)

We are still working through the many, many details! Not much chance for the school board to comment yet, so unsure what they think. But this seems to be a pretty forward-thinking plan, based on what other districts are doing.
