This afternoon the Opposition brought forward and debated a motion to create a special committee to investigate concerns raised by the Information & Privacy Commissioner regarding proper record retention. #peipoli

Four government members including @stevenmyersPC spoke enthusiastically about the intent of the motion, though they questioned the need for a special committee. They felt it would be more appropriate to use one of the existing standing committees. #peipoli

The Opposition offered an amendment to address those concerns. @stevenmyersPC then completely contradicted what he had said not half an hour before by saying that he would not support the amended motion. He adjourned debate as he sat down. #peipoli

We are disappointed that Government continues to filibuster and resist legislative oversight and inquiry into government records management, especially when its members so rabidly sought answers to the same Qs we are asking today. #peipoli

This is just another example of this Government’s troubling disregard for the importance of the legislative branch. At a time when government has extraordinary powers, this does not inspire confidence. #peipoli
