Casual reminder that the 12 smallest states produce more votes for democrats than for republicans in the senate. The idea that only R's benefit from small state representation just doesn't fit the data.
It's by population, not area (WY, VT, AK, ND, SD, DE, RI, MO, ME, NH, HI, WV). They produce 11 republicans and 11 democrats, plus two independents - Bernie Sanders and Angus King. The point is neither side benefits disproportionately from this situation.
That's why I said above that they produce more *votes* for democrats rather than more democrats. For all intents and purposes, the power balance here is 11-13 in favor of the dems. https://twitter.com/travis_john78/status/1276275021858648064
