I have said this for years. The problem is that simply deleting people allows people to feel good about themselves and does nothing to transform people or prevent further harm. https://twitter.com/sheabutterfemme/status/1276218829325172744
The problem is that so few of you are actually doing this. And if you're not, then yeah, maybe just delete them instead of endorsing their stupid bullshit but please stop pretending to have any commitment to aboltion.
It is painful to see people still friends w/or following those who have abused or harmed me but not bc they have complicated feelings about people they love/care for. It's painful bc I know so few have actually ever even had one single conversation with them about their actions.
I also have complicated feelings about people who have abused me or others. I have gotten plenty of heat for not wanting to leave a trail of destruction behind me in the instances I've chosen to walk away from relationships or not being more public or performative about it.
It's all just creating more harm and honestly much of this has been abusive in and of itself. I shouldn't be forced to unpack my own trauma to appease ppl who think I'm not "holding people accountable" bc I haven't broadcasted that process of building accountability.
I have plenty more to say on this but most of it is summed up on this really important thread by @sheabutterfemme
