Ok... so... this is good. Here’s why:

1) It’ll hold Amazon & Bezos accountable, regularly, to live up to the ambitious pledges they’ve made, including Bezos’ $10B Earth Fund, about which we haven’t heard much. Journalists may have an easier time holding feet to fire w/this name. https://twitter.com/bhavishapatel/status/1276217402288508929
2) It *may* help to remind and hold others accountable for the diverse & rapidly proliferating climate pledges that have been made. Recently we’ve seen an orgy of long-term climate pledging, without the necessary prophylactic near-term measures to actually meet them! cc @Guay_JG
3) It’s a small, incremental way to change the culture and discourse around climate change. How many really, really dumb names are there for US sports arenas? How many times are those names mentioned on ESPN, Fox Sports, etc. each week? At least here we’ve got something different
Don’t get me wrong. I’d waaay rather see Amazon green its fleet, reduce its Scope 3 emissions, invest in more renewables for its data centers, etc. etc. But I believe a company can do more than one thing at once. This arena makes it more likely it’ll do all this stuff, not less.
